WATERLOO - Charles Raymond Kouns, 94, of Ridgeway Place, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1914, in Vinton, son of George and Ethel Waddle Kouns. He married Louinza Rachael Allen on June 30, 1948, in Nashua.

Mr. Kouns graduated from Vinton High School in 1932 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring Jan. 25, 1980.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Lu Ann (Jim) Kulis of Waterloo; two stepsons, Harold (Verlyn) Allen of Jesup and Chester Allen of Herford, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marion of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Kouns.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Waterloo Memorial Park chapel, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623, with burial in the cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services Tuesday at the cemetery chapel.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
