Pedestrian Hit By Car, Killed

Waterloo recorded its 12 traffic fatality of the year Friday morning, when a 60-year-old man was struck by a car and killed in the 600 block of Independence Avenue.

Raydell Luman Byvank, 60, of 213 Linden Ave., was dead on arrival at Allen Memorial Hospital after he was struck by a car driven by Kathleen Gay Rinnels, 39, of 2754 Independence Ave., according to police.

Police said the Byvank was apparently crossing the street from south to north about 6:45 a.m. on his way to work at the Construction Machinery Company at Glenwood and Vinton Streets, when he was struck by the car which was traveling east on Independence Avenue.

Mrs. Rinnels told police that she did not see Byvank in the roadway. No charges had been filed by police Friday morning.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Chapel of Memories West for Mr. Byvank.

Mr. Byvank was born on March 12, 1911, at Mallard, the son of John and Bertha Strube Byvank. He married Edith Miles on March 12, 1940, in Waterloo. He was employed by the Construction Machinery Co.

Mr. Byvank was a member of the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church and a member of the Gleaners Class of the church Sunday school.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Larry at home; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Strube of Deming, N. M.; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Holt, also of Deming, N. M.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church for Raydell Luman Byvank, 60, of 213 Linden Ave., who was fatally injured when struck by an automobile Friday morning at the 600 block of Independence Ave.

The Rev. David Moore, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at the Chapel of Memories West until 11 a.m. Monday and at the church from noon until service time. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories.
