Eunice L. Corcoran, 93, of West Des Moines, formerly of Waterloo, Independence and Fairbank, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at the Bright Kavanagh Hospice Home, Des Moines.

She was born Aug. 25, 1920, near Dewar, daughter of Alvie C. and Marguerite K. Hodkins Schmitt. On Aug. 25, 1942, she married Elmer F. Corcoran; he died in 1987.

Eunice graduated from Independence High School. She and her husband farmed in the Fairbank area until 1987.

Survived by six sons, Jerry (Marcia) of Eatonville, Wash., Dennis (Pat) of Howell, Mich., Brian (Teresa) of Fairbank, Timothy (Kathleen) of Hudson, Ind., Michael “Nick” (Teresa) of Altoona and Mark (Kathy) of Somonauk, Ill.; three daughters, Kathleen (Walt) Tournier of Waterloo, Margaret (Randy) Benge of Ankeny and Laura (Rusty) Benge of Baxter; 27 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Janice (Chuck) Devens of Dubuque and Joan (Gerald) McCalley of Independence; and a brother, Mike (Joyce) Schmitt of Independence.

Preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Rita Michael and Kathleen Roberts; two brothers, Richard “Dick” and Donald “Doc” Schmitt; and a great-granddaughter, Annie Hoover.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6:30 p.m. parish vigil, and also from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, all at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence.
