[Waterloo Daily Courier, Monday, March 2, 1896, Waterloo, Iowa]

DEATH OF MRS. G. O. SNOWDEN.

She Passed Away Saturday Night After Years of Suffering.

After many months of suffering heroically endured, Mrs. Josephine Snowden was called to her reward. About three years ago she had an attack of asthma and her lungs were affected, so it was thought. She recovered somewhat from this but for two years she has suffered acutely with asthma find other complications. To those who were accustomed to meet this magnificent looking lady as she appeared in- former years, the change in her looks in the past few years would, be very apparent. She then was the picture of health, but all that has passed away in these later months. She never gave up and went to bed, but tried to keep around and it was only a week ago Friday that she walked around the block in which she lived. She has been confined to her bed about a week.

She was a woman of strong personality, cordial in her manner to all, it was a pleasure to meet her. She was a member of the Ladies' Literary society for a number of years and always took a great interest in the work.

Mrs. Snowden had a fine voice and was at one time a member of the Episcopal choir. She was a woman greatly admired and respected for her many excellent qualities and she will be missed in the community.

She has lived here since 1866. She came here with her former husband, Mr. Fuller. In 1878 she was married to G. O. Snowden, and he, with one son, Charles Fuller, survive her.

Josephine R. Evans was born in Dubuque, Iowa, October 17, 1840, and was a daughter of the late J. P. Evans, of this city. She has two sisters and one brother, Mrs. A. T. Lusch, of Dubuque, Mrs. William Snowden, of Minneapolis, and Frank H. Evans, of Yankton, S. D. The brother was unable to be present at the funeral.

It was only a short time ago that the Snowden family moved in to their well arranged and beautiful new house on Fourth Street, and Mrs. Snowdan has taken great comfort in it. Everything about the house was kept in immaculate order, as the deceased was one of the notable housekeepers of the city. Her hands are folded now in the eternal sleep that comes to all, and her work on earth is ended. That her hope in the future was strong and bright none who knew her could doubt.

Rev. Bywator of the Episcopal church conducted the services which wore hold from the late residence at 2:30 this afternoon. There were many beautiful flowers sent by sympathizing friends.
