EVANSDALE - Opal Mae Reams, 92, of Evansdale, died at home Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 from pancreatic cancer.

She was born Jan. 12, 1922, in rural Bristow, daughter of Mary and Henry Dix. She married Richard D. Reams on Aug. 15, 1943, in Salina, Kan.; he preceded her in death.

Opal graduated from New Hartford High School in 1939. In addition to parenting and life on the farm, she worked at the mercantile store in Dumont for several years then started working at the ASC Office, Allison. She then was office manager of Roach Farms Inc., retiring in 1986.

Survived by a daughter, Judith (William) Brandenburg of Evansdale; a son, Richard (Brita) of Tucson; three grandchildren, David Wendland, Angela (Lynden) Schauper and Alicia (Anthony) Herring; five great-grandchildren, Katelyn Wendland, Austin Wendland, Henley Schauper, Levi Herring and Ava Herring; and a sister, Eileen Smith of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Lloyd, Donald, Lee, Duane and Kenneth Dix; and a sister, Helen Ruthenberg.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Assembly of God, 5112 Lafayette Road, Evansdale, with private inurnment at a later date. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Opal loved to cook, crochet, play piano and sing. She was thrilled with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always enjoyed being with them.
