WATERLOO - Richard Joseph Lown, 94, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Waterloo, son of Phillip M. and Mary A. Kurth Lown. He married Julia M. Potter on Jan. 29, 1942, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence.

Dick attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from East High School in 1937. He was employed as an industrial engineer with Rath Packing Co., retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Air Force. He served as secretary/treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Susan M. LeQuatte of Waterloo, Julie (Herb) Frye of Grove, Okla., Marie (Steve) Bartell of Appleton, Wis., and Lisa (David) Craig of Burnsville, Minn.; seven sons, Tom (Carla) of Waterloo, Rich (Linda) of Festus, Mo., , Robert (Vickie) Lown of Sedona, Ariz., Greg (Cheryl) Lown of Farmington, Minn., David (Lauren) Lown of Apple Valley, Minn., Mark (Susie) Lown of Surprise, Ariz., and Steve (Jan) Lown of Downers Grove, Ill.; a son-in-law, Marvin McCrea of Waterloo; 34 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Preceded in death by two adult sons, Randall and Terry ; an adult daughter, Beverly McCrea; a great-grandson, Michael Feick, in infancy; a son-in-law, Rick LeQuatte; two brothers, Jack and Wallace; and a sister, Phyllis Mae Olson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward’s Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
