[Waterloo Courier, Thursday, October 28, 1869, Waterloo, Iowa]

Suicide - Theodore L. Cotton, of this city, took a dose of laudanum last Sunday evening, from the effects of which he died on Tuesday morning. He purchased the deadly poison last Thursday afternoon at one of our drug stores, after which he started home and wrote a note, which he slipped into his pocket, stating that he had got about tired of this world's hardships, etc. Several physicians were sent for on Monday, as soon as his condition was discovered, who administered the proper antidotes, but death's grip was relentless, and the unfortunate man expired with intense suffering.

Mr. Cotton was a blacksmith by trade, and complained all summer that his wages were inadequate for the support of his family.

He was a young man about 30 yers old, and leaves a wife and several children.

Just as we go to press, a Coroner's inquest if being held, and we expect to be able to give more particulars in our next.
