WATERLOO - Norbert A. Trainor, 90, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014.

He was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Waterloo, son of Lillian Trainor. He married Marcie Brunn on April 23, 1957, in Waterloo.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Norbert owned a tiling company and worked as a farm drainage contractor, on road construction and in regional transit. He was involved in various organizations, such as the Grout Museum, Antique Acres and Cedar Valley Hospice. He also served as an Ambassador for Christ with the Knights of Columbus.

Survived by his wife; a son, Darwin of Waterloo; seven daughters, Deborah (Lee) Morrison of Evansdale, Della (Ray) Mosher, Diane Steimel, Denise Trainor, Dorothy Nieman and Donna Trainor, all of Waterloo, Lori (Vern) Wedmeier of Frederika; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by two sons, David and Donald; a daughter, Angel; two grandchildren, Chad and Bambi Morrison; two great-grandchildren, Devon Mosher and Thomas Finn; his mother; and four uncles.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Eagle Center, where military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth Post 714 of Gilbertville. Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary by the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Spending time with his family was the highlight of Norbert's life.
