WATERLOO - M. Jane Martin, 79, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, after a recent illness.

She was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Tipton, daughter of Archie and Catherine McGuire Hagen. She married her husband, Quinn Martin; he preceded her in death.

Jane earned a bachelor's degree from St. Mary’s Academy, Davenport, and a master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She worked for the Waterloo Public Library for more than 30 years and continued to volunteer there after retirement.

Survived by two daughters, Kris (Rod) Waschkat of Waterloo and Kate (Duane) Amundson of Vermillion, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Julie Martin of Fishers, Ind.; four grandsons, Dan Amundson, Chris Amundson, Andrew Martin and Alex Q. Martin; two stepgrandsons, Wade Waschkat and Drew Waschkat; a brother, James (Mary) Hagen of North Carolina; and a sister, Kay (Craig) Smith of New Mexico.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Tim.

Services: No service is planned. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo Public Library or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Jane loved reading and flowers, but most of all she enjoyed her family and friends. She and Quinn had three children who were most important in their lives, and she enjoyed sharing her passion with readers of all ages.
