CEDAR FALLS - Duane C. Anders, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at Mallard Point.

He was born July 6, 1933, in Oelwein, son of Milo C. and Dorothy E. Robinson Anders. He married Erika Phül on July 5, 1955, in Furth, Germany; she died April 7, 2002.

Duane served as sergeant and field communications chief in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor's degree in industrial tech with minors in math and science from the University of Northern Iowa. He was employed as Director of Plant Services for UNI, retiring in 1997.

Survived by three daughters, Nancy (Scott) Rheinhart of Minnetonka, Minn., and Kim (Brad) Prinsen and Kelly Anders (Jeff Trangsrud), both of Cedar Falls; a son, Tom (Kathy) of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Paul, Haley, Anders, Alex, Grace, Derek and Claire; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Julia; three brothers, his twin, Dean (Carol) of Solvang, Calif., Jim (Beverly) of Grand Island, Neb., and David (Lynn) of Cedar Falls; a sister, Nancy Tibbetts of Cedar Falls; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Cunningham of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a sister, Connie Wood.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Service, with full military honors provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard. Cremation will take place after the service with private family inurnment in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials to be designated at a later date.

Duane was an avid golfer, loved history, reading, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed his volunteer work at Allen Ambulatory Surgery Center.
