WATERLOO - Lee K. Plaehn, 93, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 22, 1915, in Reinbeck, son of Peter and Edna McCurdy Plaehn.

He graduated from Reinbeck High School and attended Iowa State University. He worked on his father's farm and also neighboring farms for several years, then worked for the Dike Creamery. During World War II he worked in a shipyard on the west coast, then was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 30 years, and also continued to farm in the Cedar Falls area, retiring in 1976.

Survived by a brother, Ross (Molly) of Waterloo; two nieces, Marilyn (Larry) Cavanaugh of Waterloo and Becky (Tim) Rogers of Lakewood, Colo.; a nephew, Robert (Cathie) Plaehn of Lakeville, Wis.; five great-nephews; two great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; amd five great-great-nieces.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Marlys, Mary and Jeanette Plaehn; and a brother, Glenn Plaehn.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck. Public visitation for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation.
