WATERLOO - Spc. Robert Swackhamer, 78, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 20, 2014.

He was born on March 20, 1936, in Des Moines, son of John and Edna Alloway Swackhamer. He married his wife, Carol, in 1964.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survived by his wife; a son, Robert L.; a daughter, Roxanna Abela; two grandsons, Justin M. Swackhamer and Richard Kuhnhausen; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parent, brothers and sisters.

Graveside service and interment were July 23 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
