WATERLOO - Robert Nelson, 78, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born Aug. 15, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Nels and Catherine Sondag Nelson. He married Velva Willer on Aug. 5, 1950, in Waterloo at St. John's Catholic Church. She died March 10, 2002.

Mr. Nelson graduated from Waterloo East High School. He worked for 30 years at Winterbottom Supply and 10 years at Dennis Supply Co. He also had served in the U.S. Army 73rd Tank Battalion during the Korean War.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Werner of Brookfield, Wis., and Rosemary Wallace of Waterloo; two grandsons and a great-grandson.

Preceded in death by a brother, Alex; and a sister, Betty Nelson.

Private memorial services: will be held at Locke Funeral Home. There will be no visitation, his body was cremated. Inurnment will be later in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
