WATERLOO - Donald Charles Rathe, 91, of the Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Sauk Centre, Minn., son of William H. and Pauline Selinsky Rathe. On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Lucille M. Belander in Iowa City, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Rathe served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his bachelors degree in history and education from State Teachers College (St. Cloud State), St. Cloud, Minn., and his masters degree in history from the University of Iowa. He was an American history instructor at Waterloo East High School from 1954 until retiring in 1977.

Survived by a son, Ronald of Sartell, Minn.

Preceded in death by a brother, Roland.

Memorial services will be later this year at the Western Home Chapel in Cedar Falls. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
