CEDAR FALLS - Phyllis I. "Phyl" Michel, 83, of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, July 22, 2014.

She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Clermont, daughter of Elmer and Alma Nyberg Osmundson. She married Eugene John “E.J.” Michel on Aug. 27, 1950, in Clermont; he died April 29, 2006.

Phyl was employed as secretary with Fayette County Social Services; clerical supervisor with Black Hawk County Social Services; secretary with Black Hawk County Extension Service; co-owned and managed Virginia Handy’s Oven; was a baker with Clabby’s Catering; and retired in 1999 as community trainer with Goodwill Industries.

Survived by two sons, Kenton of Waterloo and Kurt of Oakwood, Ga.; three grandchildren, Connie (Jay) Reyonds of Aplington, Jessica Michel of Louisville, Ky., and Jamie Michel of Waterloo; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Kerry Michel; and a sister, JoAnn Wasinger.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Trails Partnership, 2410 W. Lone Tree Road, Cedar Falls.
