LA PORTE CITY - Lois K. “Aunt Lo” Miszner, 95, of La Porte City, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born March 26, 1919, in rural Dysart, daughter of John P. and Martha A. Petersen Miszner.
Lois graduated from La Porte City High School in 1936. She worked at Byams Five and Dime store, and then at Estep Motors for 42 years as an accountant and in the parts department. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 67 years. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and of VFW Normandy Post 3983 Auxiliary. She wrote a La Porte City Progress Review newspaper column titled “Back When,” later known as “Up on the Hill” for many years. She had three books published using material from her columns.
Survived by a sister-in-law, Ardyce “Ardie” Miszner of La Porte City; two nephews, Jeff (Judy) Miszner of New York, N.Y., and Todd (Brenda) Miszner of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and three great-nieces, Allison Miszner, Kelly Miszner and Jody (Mike) Pickard.
Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl and Russell Miszner; a sister, Frances Scott; and two great-nephews, Scott and Bruce “Chip” Prestien.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. La Porte City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
