WATERLOO - Eileen M. Scribner, 99, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Lakeview Landing.

She was born April 2, 1915, in Fairbank, daughter of Mike and Mabel Piegor Shannon. She married Clarence G. Scribner on Sept. 22, 1934, in Kirksville, Mo.; he died June 4, 1989.

Eileen worked in the sliced bacon department at Rath Meat Packing Co. for many years. She and her husband farmed on Dunkerton Road and Highway 63 for over 50 years, raising exotic animals, including buffalo, elk, llamas and horses.

Survived by a brother-in-law, Mark Girsch of Cedar Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Edith “Babe” (Gus) Horn, Maxine (Amil) Rudolph and Mary Jane Girsch; and two brothers, Cliff (Margaret) and Kenny (Clara) Shannon.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Eileen was very active in the Waterloo Garden Club for over 50 years and also served as treasurer. She was involved in 4-H and square dancing, and loved showing animals to the Waterloo school children.
