WATERLOO - Earl E. Strottman, 80, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Allen Hospital.

He was born May 22, 1925, in Maxfield Township, Bremer County, Readlyn, son of Herman and Helen Wedemeier Strottman. He married Violet Mae Miller Sept. 4, 1949, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

He was raised on a farm south of Readlyn, where he worked with his family. He then worked for John Deere, where he retired after 34 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed being outdoors in his garden and loved being around horses.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Mary (Frank) Reuter of Waverly; five grandchildren, Maranda Reuter of Ionia, Helaina Reuter of Waverly, DCC (SW/AW) John (Cassandra) Riggle of Norfolk, Va., Tammy Kruckenberg (Tom Siemens) of Waterloo and Heather (Jim) Johnson of Vinton; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ervin (Darlene) and Lloyd (Donna), both of Waterloo, and Virgil (Barb) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister, Roxie (Jack) Hastings of St. Paul, Minn.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Riggle; his parents; a brother, Harold; and three sisters, Florence Bachtell, Esther Strottman and Berniece Strottman.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo, Cedar Valley Hospice, Waverly, or the family.
