WATERLOO - Carl Lessy, 82, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Allen Hospital of cancer.

He was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Lucerne, Mo., son of Eugene and Edna Pearl Fitzwater Lessy. He married Anna Bell Jackson on March 10, 1954, in Milon, Mo. She died July 10, 1996.

Mr. Lessy served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European/African Theater. He was owner/operator of his own trucking company and later drove for Warren Transport, retiring in 1987. He was an excellent baker specializing in pies from scratch, cookies and bread. He also enjoyed gardening (farmin) with his tomatoes and cucumbers and did his own yard work. He was an aficionado of babies and enjoyed following several baseball teams.

Survivors include his companion dog, Chelsey; three sons, LaVern (Yvonna) Meyer of Libby, Mont., Gerald (Colleen) Meyer of Bozeman, Mont., and Roland (Hattie) Meyer of Whitefish, Mont.; five daughters, Margaret Brockmeier of Epping, Mo., Doris (Clarence) Ostdahl of Evansdale, Bernice (Ray) Fenstermacker of Stanley, N.D., Juanita "Nita" (Bill) Quibell of Waterloo and Sandra (Jim) Scribner of Evansdale; 72 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maudie Richardson of Princeton, Mo., and Jeannie (Bill) Morris of Lucerne, Mo.

Preceded in death by two sons, Bernard and David Meyer; a daughter, Jean Swanson; a brother, George; and two sisters, Cleo Webb and Nelda Hazel Robbins.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Saturday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
