WATERLOO - Gladys Marie Southworth, 79, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at Allen Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Denver, daughter of Robert Edward and Edna Amanda Lamprecht Schmidt. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1943. She married William "Bill" Southworth Feb. 29, 1948, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Waverly. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 2003.

She mentored with Elk Run Heights Elementary School and was a volunteer with Exceptional Persons Inc. Gladys was employed by many years at the National Tea Store. She enjoyed gardening, bicycle riding and sewing. Most of all, Gladys enjoyed feeding the birds. She was also very active with church activities at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale.

Gladys will be missed by all who knew her.

Survived by two sons, Cole (Roberta) of Cedar Falls and Todd of Waterloo; three sisters, Ruth Stumpf of Arizona, Dorothy (Ray) McDonald of Waverly and Roberta (Don) Rockwood of Janesville; two stepgrandchildren, Tracy (Mike) Herbert and Michael Ghere; a stepsister, Leone Bowles; and nieces and her good friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, William; her stepfather, Charles Koepke; and two stepbrothers, Casper and William Koepke.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Evansdale, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorial fund has been established.
