GILBERTVILLE - Helene Mary Lutgen, 87, of Gilbertville, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

She was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Black Hawk County, daughter of John and Leona Girsch Mangrich. She married Francis Lutgen, and they later divorced.

Helene worked at Varsity Cleaners as a seamstress and later at Powers Manufacturing, retiring in 1991.

Survived by two sons, Gene of Cedar Falls and Don of Gilbertville; a daughter, Connie (Gary) Gardner of Gilbertville; a son-in-law, John Kelly of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Carol Lutgen of Gilbertville; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Jim (Pat) Mangrich of Raymond.

Preceded in death by a son, Richard; a daughter, Kathy Jo Lutgen; three brothers, Anthony, Vince and Paul Mangrich; three sisters, Rosella Soppe, Jeanette Schares and Anna Else; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with a 7 p.m. vigil. There will be no visitation at the church before services.

Helene loved her garden, sewing and spending time with her family.
