WATERLOO - Ruth Catharine Dunlay, 87, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 8, 1926, in New Haven, daughter of Angelo James and Grace Erwin Byrnes. She married Keith Dunlay on Oct. 30, 1948, in New Haven. He died Feb. 26, 2002.

Ruthie attended Business College in Mason City and was a secretary at John Deere Tractor Mfg. Co. for a year. After their first child was born she became a homemaker.

Survived by nine sons, Tim (Cec) of Ames, Danny, Mike (Denise), Pat (Joyce), Dennis (Sue), Tom (Mary) and John, all of Waterloo, Terry (Heidi) of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Jenny) of Olatha, Kan.; three daughters, Colleen (Garry) Hansen of Hudson, Susie (Jeff) Billerbeck of Reinbeck and Nancy (Matt) Wolter of Shoreview, Minn.; 36 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Claire, Erwin and Dean Byrnes; and a sister, Dorothy Emrich.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart School.
