WATERLOO - Donald Morrison Reed, 74, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, June 3, 2014, under hospice care.

He was born Aug. 2, 1939, at a farmhouse in Garrison, son of George and Thelma Dake Reed. He married Kathryn “Katy” Barta on Nov. 22, 1991, in Waterloo.

He graduated from Dysart High School in 1957. He helped on his parents’ farm for years until moving to Waterloo, then worked at John Deere for 30 years as a welder until his retirement.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Scott Reed and Michael Reed, both of Austin, Texas, Alan (Pam) Beasley of Post Falls, Idaho, and Kurt (Jan) Borgwardt of Vinton; three daughters, Eva (Gary) Schlichting of Traer, Donna Reed Cook of Martindale, Texas, and Lisa (Michael) Featherston of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Lynn) of Manley; and two sisters, Karen (Derald) Merchant of Vinton and Monica Koshivas of Bennett.

Preceded in death by his parents; a stepgrandson, C.J. Featherston.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Harvest Vineyard Church, with private family burial in St. Albert’s Cemetery, Lamont. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund is being established

Donald and Katy would travel on Amtrak from La Crosse, Wis., to Spokane, Wash., and go through the Rocky Mountains to visit family, changing paths every few years. Donald loved the whole Bible and would study it for hours. He also loved music and played the guitar for hours. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
