EVANSDALE - Raymond Smith, 86, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Evansdale, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Jeffers, Minn., son of Henry Elias and Thursa Mae Croot Smith. In 1940, he married Helen Barrons, and they later divorced. On June 16, 1956, he married Margaret Luella Klassen in Harmony, Minn. She died Aug. 25, 1981.

Mr. Smith was a mechanic at Chamberlain Manufacturing until his retirement in 1982.

Survived by two sons, Terry of Waterloo and Ray of Evansdale; four daughters, Betty Reuter of Evansdale, Bonnie (Terry) Janssen of Waterloo, Diane Brown of Cedar Falls and Linda; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a stepgranddaughter; and two brothers, James of Parkersburg and Henry Jr. of Aplington.

Preceded in death by a brother, Edward; and a sister, Marian.

Services: 1:30 p.m. today at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
