Brandon John Smith

Brandon J. Smith, 25, of Quasqueton, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at his home as a result of an accident in his shop.

He was born Nov. 1, 1988 in Waterloo, son of Scott and Amy Smith.

Brandon graduated from Northern University High School in 2007 and was a truck driver with Martin Brothers Distributing.

Survived by his fiancé, Stephanie King of Quasqueton; a son, Carver King, and a baby on the way; his parents of Cedar Falls; three brothers, Nate (Mikaela) Smith and Andy McClain, both of Cedar Falls, and TJ McClain of Evergreen, Colo.; a sister, Anna Smith of Evergreen; maternal grandmother, Angeline Ormord of Cedar Falls; grandparents, John and Shirley Dumer of Cedar Falls; and a niece, Kloee Smith.

Preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Dale and Esther Smith; and maternal grandfather, Arthur Ormord.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Orchard Hill Reformed Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Brandon was an avid race fan who started racing go-karts at a young age and went on to race IMCA Northern Sport Mods at Marshalltown, Independence and Vinton Speedways. He enjoyed spending his free time with family and friends and could often be found working in his garage.

Quasqueton man killed in home accident.

QUASQUETON - The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office concluded its investigation into an incident that killed a man Saturday.

About 1:15 a.m., authorities received a 911 call about a person trapped beneath a vehicle at a residence in the 700 block of East Linn Street in Quasqueton. Officials determined Brandon Smith, 25, of Quasqueton, was working in a garage under a stock car when the vehicle came off the jack stand and dropped on him.

Smith was removed from beneath the vehicle and paramedics administered CPR, according to the sheriff's office. Smith, however, died.

The Quasqueton Fire Department, Area Ambulance Service and Covenant AirCare assisted at the scene.
