WATERLOO - Robert J. "Bob" Nesbit, 89, of Friendship Village died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at the Med Center of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 8, 1916, in rural Dunkerton, son of Robert and Minnie Anderson Nesbit. He married Kay Francis, and they were later divorced. He married Frances M. Leo on Aug. 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, N.M. She died Sept. 10, 2002.

Mr. Nesbit was employed by Construction Machinery Co., where he started as a stockroom clerk, advancing to purchasing agent in 1957. He enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer and bowler and played volleyball at the YMCA until his early 80s. He helped with the landscaping and planting of trees when Gates Park golf course opened.

He was a member of the Waterloo Elks, Optimist Club, YMCA and Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.

Survived by a daughter, Jan Reed of Jefferson City, Tenn.; three nieces, Ramona (David) Williams and Rebecca (Ken) Nicholson, both of Cedar Falls, and Nancy (Ted) Stair of Wappinger Falls, N.Y.; and a nephew, Donald J. McCalley of Manchester.

Preceded in death by a brother, Lee Nesbit; and a sister, Doris McCalley.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Waterloo Memorial Park Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.
