WASHBURN -- LaVerne H. Plaster, 81, of Washburn, died at home Thursday, May 29, 2014.

He was born June 15, 1932, in Westgate, son of Herbert Christ and Esther Aschbrenner Plaster. He married Shirley J. Flanscha on April 4, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumner. She died July 14, 2008.

LaVerne was employed with the Rath Packing Co. for 33 years and later with Cedar Knoll Trailer Court for 11 years, retiring in 1996. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a member of Washburn Moose Lodge No. 328.

Survived by four daughters: Debbie (Randy) Foulk of La Porte City, Brenda (Don) Roe of Waterloo, Sandra (Kelly) Emerson of Cedar Falls and Sharon Herrmann, also of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren: Andy (Courtney) Foulk, Angie Vincent, Allison (Allen) Clark, Adam (Becky) Foulk, Kari (Don Hill), Ryan and Nick Roe, Tyler and Mitch Herrmann, Kayla and Kenna Nelson; six great-grandchildren: Shay, Bailey and Brody Foulk, Ethan and Corbin Clark and Max Vincent; two stepgrandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Andrews and Matthew Emerson; and three sisters: Arlene Prickett of Fayette, Geneva (Paul) Liebau of Waverly and JoAnn Benter of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, with full military rites conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard, followed by a luncheon at the Washburn Moose Lodge. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
