WATERLOO -- Dan Alan Hileman, 57, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 20, at Danner Thunderbird Hospital, Glendale, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 14, 1956, in Waterloo, son of Robert and Dolores Cady Hileman. He married Pam Hillis in Phoenix; she died in 2000.

Dan graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks, N.D., and from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in the 1970s with a degree in electrical engineering. In 2007 he earned a bachelor's degree in business and management from the University of Phoenix.

Survived by two sons, Jeremy (Stacey) Baker and Andrew Hileman, both of Phoenix; a daughter, Ashley Hileman of Phoenix; two grandchildren of Phoenix; his mother of Waterloo; two brothers, Jay and Ben (Marilyn), both of Waterloo; a sister, Lori (John) Schmidt of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his father.

Private family graveside services: 1 p.m. Saturday.

Dan was a very active participant in the community and was passionate about raising awareness on politics. He loved to travel and constantly worked. He has left behind many friends and close family who will deeply miss him.
