WATERLOO - Dale H. Ott, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls.

He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Clay County, son of Walter and Ella Schmidt Ott. He married Inez I. Brunsvold on Aug. 23, 1947, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Worth County. She died Jan. 3, 2005.

He graduated from Hartley High School and was employed with Vitalis Truck Line in Des Moines for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.

Survived by five sons, David L. of London, England, Gregory D. (Suzan) of McMinnville, Ore., twins Brian A. (Valerie) of Cedar Falls and Steven W. of Waterloo and Jeff O. (Holly) of Dunlap, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, Lindsey, Michael, Trevor, Tiffany, Lukas, Derek, Taylor, Andrew, Kristin, Brianne, Tarrin, Jessica, Zachary and Jordan Ott and Breanna Kellogg; five great-grandchildren, Neve, Joanie, Jonah, Avery and Alice; and a brother, Orlan (Kitty) Ott of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Esta Ott; and a grandson, Ryan Ott.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with inurnment in Concordia Cemetery, rural Joice, where full military rites will be conducted by Otto-Chose American Legion Post 235, Lake Mills. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and also for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Dale was a longtime long-suffering Cubs fan. He loved to fish and spend time with all of his family at barbecues, T-ball games, graduations, etc. and especially family meals! He was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
