EVANSDALE - Cheryl Rhea Thies, 67, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

She was born June 30, 1946, in Waterloo, daughter of Melvin and Hazel Stone Smith. She married Larry J. Thies Sr. on Dec. 6, 1963, in Omaha, Neb.

Cheryl worked at Casey’s in Evansdale baking pizzas for 16 years,

Survived by her husband; two sons, Myron (Tami Miller) of Evansdale and Larry Jr. (Tammy) of Raymond; two daughters, Merry (Robert) Wilcox of Evansdale and Ranae (Chad) White of Elk Run Heights; eight grandchildren, Toni and Shawn, and Kristian and Lauren, all of Waterloo, and Kayla Jo, Kayla Rhea, Sam and Jaden, all of Elk Run Heights; four great-grandchildren, Jo, Nevaeh, Rylee and Rheagan; and a brother, James (Karen) Smith of Erie, Colo.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Virginia Williams.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the family.

Together the couple raised four children who fondly remember wonderful holiday gatherings with huge meals and countless Christmas gifts for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life and her greatest legacy.
