CEDAR FALLS -- Evelyn A. Davis, 98, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

She was born May 28, 1915, in Barclay Township in Black Hawk County, daughter of Bert J. and Edna Hallman Thompson. She married Vern R. Davis on Nov. 22, 1936, in Galena, Ill.; he died Feb. 19, 1982.

Evelyn graduated from Jesup High School, Jesup, in 1934, and worked as a sales associate with J.C. Penney Co., retiring in 1970.

Survived by three sons, Robert (Micheale) of Waterloo, Gary (Pam) of Hudson and Craig (Terry) of The Woodlands, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Davis; two brothers, Glenn and Earl Thompson; and a sister, Gladys Blume.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Evelyn was active in genealogy research and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Society (DAR). She also enjoyed dancing, playing Bridge, shopping, working in her flower garden and spending time with her grandkids.
