WATERLOO - James A. Anderson, 90, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Humboldt County, son of Ole and Barbara Leist Anderson. He married Ida Regenold on Dec. 12, 1945, in Thor.

James farmed for many years and also was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, Rath Packing Co., Illinois Central Railroad and Jens Olson Construction. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Jimmy (Barb) and John (Monica), both of Waterloo; two daughters, Joan (Terry) Slickers and Janice (Randy) Bearbower, both of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Larson; and a brother, Harland.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to American Heart Association or Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
