WATERLOO - Nicholas James Lavenz, 61, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, May 17, 2014, of natural causes.

He was born March 11, 1953, in Waterloo, son of John P. and Adelyn O’Connell Lavenz. He married Kathy Petersen on May 19, 1979, in Waterloo, and they later divorced. His common law wife, Mary Britton, died in January 2012.

Nicholas was a part-time musician with the band Stonehenge.

Survived by three sons, Christopher of North Bend, Ore., and Thomas and Matthew (Kari), both of Waterloo; a grandchild, Riley Lavenz; four brothers, John (Sandi), Robert (Carmen) and Larry (Imelda), all of Waterloo, and Richard of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters, Kathleen (Rodge) Bickerstaff of Bellevue, Neb., and Rebecca Lavenz of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Charity Britton of Waterloo; a stepgrandson, Nicky Britton of Waterloo; and his father-in-law, Ernest “Pokey Pete” Petersen of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Wirtz Parrish.

Family-directed memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with inurnment in St. Mary Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 6:30 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church. There also will be an informal memorial gathering at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harvest Vineyard Church, Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
