WATERLOO - Charles R. Howard, 90, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born June 12, 1923, in Chamois, Mo., son of John and Armenia Pointer Howard. He married Inez D. Bundrick on Aug. 8, 1945, in Belton, Texas; she died May 3, 1990.

Charles worked for John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works as a pipe bender for 36 years until his retirement, and then volunteered at the Cedar Valley Food Bank for 20 years. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Survived by a daughter, Shirley (Randy) Walker of Waterloo; a grandson, Kevin (Brandy) Walker; two great-grandchildren, Kordell and Kaelyn, both of Waterloo; and a sister, Ruby Young of Louisiana, Mo.

Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George, Fred, Bill and John; and three sisters, Kathryn Kepell, Maude Danuser and Opal Streck.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
