Lois Mildred Jans, age 71, died at home May 12, 2014, after a long illness.

Born March 10, 1943, to Robert and Mildred Cochrum.

Preceded in death were her mother Mildred and sisters May and Barbara.

Survived by husband Duane Jans Jr.; sisters Robbie Bennett and husband Earl of Williamstown W.Va., Edith Conway and husband Paul of ElCentro, Calif., and Charlotte Ashurst and husband Kenny of Westmoreland, Calif.; three children, Dennis Strawhun and wife Lori of Norman, Okla., Robyn Beenken and husband Delbert of Grundy Center and Bryan Jans and wife Joy of Clutier; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lois spent her entire life working with the mentally handicapped and elderly citizens. She lived in Reinbeck and worked at Harmony House in Waterloo for 20 years before moving to Norman after retirement.

Memorial services will be at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Norman on July 28 at 2 p.m.
