WATERLOO - Joan M. Wendling, 63, of Waterloo, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born June 10, 1942, in Independence, daughter of William H. and Donna A. Conrad Wendling. She was a 1961 graduate of St. John's Catholic High School, Independence, and was employed with St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo for 15 years prior to her retirement.

Survivors include a sister, Judy Leisinger of Cedar Falls; and four brothers, John (Patricia) Wendling of Cedar Rapids, Tom (Judi) Wendling of Dixon, Ill., Jim (Pat) Wendling of Independence and Larry (Lori) Wendling of Hudson.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish vigil service.
