CEDAR FALLS - Betty M. Hinton, 72, of Cedar Falls, died at home April 11, 2006.

She was born May 4, 1933, in Republic, Wash., daughter of Arthur and Mary Gray. She married Charles "Chuck" F. Hinton Jr. on Dec. 24, 1952, at Fort Sill, Okla., and they later divorced.

Ms. Hinton graduated from Colo High School, Colo, then attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa for teaching. She taught at Robert Lucas Elementary, Iowa City, for two years, then taught at Southdale Elementary, Cedar Falls, until her retirement. She enjoyed genealogy, was a member of the Cedar Falls Woman's Club and belonged to Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

Survivors include a son, Chuck III (Rhonda) of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Erin, Tyler and Ryan Hinton; a brother, Paul (Shirley) Gray of Nevada, Iowa; and a sister, Norma Elsberry of Mesa, Ariz.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Public visitation 11 a.m. until services Thursday at the chapel.

A memorial fund has been established.
