WATERLOO - Merlin Delmar Doland, 85, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at NorthCrest Specialty Care.

He was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Lima, son of Orville and Pearl Everett Doland. He married Bonnie Wilkes on May 15, 1949; they later divorced.

Merlin was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was past commander of Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. He was a charter member of the Waterhawks and operated the Boating Center. He owned and operated Merl’s Mower and Repair.

Survived by two daughters, Dianne (Lee) Bedore and Debra Robinson, both of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Nike Bedore, J.D. Bedore, Ryan Bedore and Tara Doland; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Sue) of Waterloo; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends here, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Zapata, Texas.

Preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Everett, Eldon, Ronald, Charles and Junior.

Memorial services: 4 p.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with military rites by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, and burial at a later date in Lima. Visitation from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
