CEDAR FALLS - Robert J. “Bob” Young, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls.
He was born June 30, 1924, in rural Volga, son of William and Ella Schmidt Young. He married Carol E. Brockway Aug. 29, 1952, in Arlington. She died March 19, 2006.
Bob served in U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was employed at Rath Packing and later was a sales representative with the Fuller Brush Co. and a self-employed vegetable farmer, active at the area farmers markets.
Survived by two daughters, Susan (Glen) Zubrod of Nashua and Jane Young (fiance Wendall Sents) of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Lisa (Jason) Stille of North Liberty, Jill (Jesus) Hernandez of Huntley, Ill., Bryan Zubrod (fiancee Courtney Beadel) of Nashua, Stephanie Strickland of Evansdale and Sean Strickland of Ames; and four great-grandchildren, Elle Strickland, Tatum and Tessa Stille and Laila Hernandez.
Preceded in death by a brother, William Young; and four sisters, Mabel Kneeskern, Louise Averill, Ida Maye Rowell and Dorothy Leonard.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at NewAldaya Lifescapes Chapel, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services at the chapel. Full military honors will be provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post No. 49.
Memorials may be directed to the Volga River State Recreation Area or to the family to be determined at a later date.
