John Joseph Ulfers, 54, of Ackley, died at home Monday, April 9, 2007.

He was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Waterloo, son of Wendell and Darlene Bergman Ulfers. He married Sonja Norem in August 1974 at the Ackley Methodist Church, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Ulfers graduated from Ackley Geneva High School and retired from shipping and receiving with Chiquita.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle (John) Reinhardt of Omaha, Neb., and Jennifer Ulfers of Ackley; a son, Wendell (Angel) of Dumont; four granddaughters; two brothers, Randall (Brenda) of Ackley and Richard (Karen) of Lemore, Calif.; and two sisters, Bonnie (Richard) Wiederkehr and Anita (Gerald) Echelberry, both of Ackley.

Preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Max Barnholt.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sietsema Funeral Home, Ackley, with public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
