CEDAR FALLS - Thomas J. Bonefas, 59, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born May 30, 1947, in Waterloo, son of Phillip J. and Letha L. Fisher Bonefas. He married Lois Stuempfig Jan. 3, 1970.

He graduated from East High School in 1965 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1974. He also served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Bonefas was employed by the 1st Judicial District Department of Corrections for 31 years, retiring in 2005 as facilities division manager.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Brandon of Cedar Falls and Zachary (Becky) of Davenport; and a sister, Barbara (John) Sullivan of Orland Park, Ill.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post No. 49. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice or Allen Memorial Foundation.
