WATERLOO - Helen C. Rose, 105, of Friendship Village, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006 at Lakeview Landing.
She was born Jan. 8, 1901, in Oakville, daughter of Moses P. and Mamie Wheeler Cook. She married Leon H. Rose June 10, 1931, at First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo.
She received her bachelor of arts degree in August 1926 from Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. She taught history and English for a total of 10 years. She also assisted her husband in their Rose's Beauty and Barber Supplies for a total of 20 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. She was an active member in Eastern Star and served as worthy matron of Waterloo Chapter OES No. 128 in 1950.
Survived by a son, James L. (Arlene) of Anoka, Minn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by six brothers; and two sisters.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Friendship Village Chapel, with inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway.
