WATERLOO - Marlyn Charlton, 84, died at home Tuesday, Nov.4, 2014.

She was born March 14, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., daughter of Elroy and Edna Goddard Jacobson. She married Robert “Bob” Charlton on July 1, 1949.

She graduated in 1948 from East High School, Waterloo. For 25 years she was a teachers’ aide in the Waterloo School System.

Survived by four children, David (Kim) Charlton of Dike, Brian (Pam) Charlton of Charles City, Cathy Smith of Waterloo and Mark (Wendy) Charlton of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Charlton; a son-in-law, Bruce Smith; and her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Norma Jacobson.

Services will be private. Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Marlyn Charlton, 84, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at her home in Waterloo.

Marlyn Joyce Jacobson Charlton was born March 14, 1930, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Elroy and Edna (Goddard) Jacobson. She graduated in 1948 from East High School in Waterloo. On July 1, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Charlton. For 25 years she was a teachers' aide in the Waterloo School System. Her interests included reading, watching various athletic events, gardening, playing cards and parlor games. She also enjoyed popcorn with real butter, cookies, hamburgers and snacks. Family was always important to Marlyn and she looked forward to sharing life with them.

Living family members include four children, David (Kim) Charlton of Dike, Brian (Pam) Charlton of Charles City, Cathy Smith of Waterloo and Mark (Wendy) Charlton of Lincoln, Nebr.; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Charlton; son-in-law, Bruce Smith; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Norma Jacobson.
