[Cedar Falls Record, Thursday, February 22, 1917, Cedar Falls, Iowa]

Mr. Peter Hoagland, whose death was noted in Tuesday's Record, was born in Scipio, near, Auburn, N. Y., Feb. 26, 1828, and afterwards moved with his parents to Castile, N. Y.

In 1850 he was united in marriage to Mary Phillis Day, whose death occurred nearly thirty years ago.

In 1861 Mr. and Mrs. Hoagland moved to Iowa, where he took up government land, living on the farm near this city until 1873 when he came to Cedar Falls. For many years he was engaged in the grain buying business, a partner of the late M. N. Dayton. He was widely known by the farmers in this section of Iowa, but for several years past had been living a quiet retired life having the companionship of his two daughters, Misses Myrta and Mayme Hoagland.

One daughter, Miss Edith Hoagland, died in 1901, and when the summons came for him on the afternoon of Feb. 20, 1917, it found him ready to answer the call and he passed peacefully away.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the home at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Dr. J. W. Holland, assisted by the Masonic fraternity. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
