CEDAR FALLS - Ruth L. Steward, 85, of Mason City, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
She was born June 4, 1920, in Brandon, daughter of Cato R. and Rosabelle Beachler Kennicott. She married Russell K. Steward on June 16, 1946, in Independence. He preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1996.
She graduated from Independence High School in 1937 and worked for the Ration Board during World War II. Later, she was secretary to the president of Bremer Packing, Waverly, and then attended nursing school and worked at the Cedar Falls Western Home until her retirement.
She enjoyed traveling and will be missed on future road trips.
Survived by two sons, Roger and Ron, both of Mason City; three grandchildren, Chad Steward and Chris (Bayne) Steward, both of Phoenix, and Renee (Chad) Weaver of Mason City; four great-grandchildren, Cambay, Spencer, Samantha and Joey; and a brother, Jim Kennicott of Jesup.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Bob and Don Kennicott.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Public visitation for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund will be established.
