JANESVILLE - Fred George "Fritz" Baker, 82, of Janesville, died Thursday, July 21, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 3, 1922, in Earlville, son of Clarence Edward and Mabel Allen Baker. He graduated from West High School [Waterloo] in 1940 and served in the Merchant Marines from 1942 to 1944. He married Rose Anna Maria Schommer Sept. 12, 1955, at United Methodist Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Baker worked at John Deere Tractor Works for 35 years, retiring in 1982.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Fred (Dorothy) of Grundy Center and Jeffrey of Janesville; four daughters, Deborah Baldwin and Rose Coburn, both of Cedar Falls, Susan (Alvin) Licoan of Ookala, Hawaii, and Cheryl Conaway of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne of Waterloo; and two sisters, Alice Leedom and Evelyn Reeves, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Earl; and two sisters, Florence Grieman and Hazel Geary.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Marys Catholic Church, Waverly, with burial in the Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.
