WATERLOO - Mildred Lorraine Rechtfertig, 88, of Ottawa, Kan., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Richmond Health Care Center, Richmond, Kan., peacefully enveloped in the love and devotion of her family.

She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Waterloo, daughter of Edwin and Clara Nemmers Larson. She married Robert "Bob" Rechtfertig on June 24, 1937, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1984. She lived in Waterloo for 60 years before moving to Ottawa in 1978.

Mrs. Rechtfertig was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary's High School and was a homemaker. She was noted for her total dedication to raising her six children in a loving Christian home. She was deeply loved by her 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, knitting, ceramics and Bible study, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Ladies' Guild, Christian Women's Club, Oasis Club and Peoria Plotter's Extension Homemaker Unit, all in Ottawa.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Ring of LaVerne, Calif., and Meri (Jeff) Hrabe of Olathe, Kan.; three sons, Jim (Nancy) of Rogers, Ark., Larry (Jeanne) of Paso Robles, Calif., and Gary (Judy) of Sasche, Texas; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bob and Ed Larson, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Clark; two sisters, Delores Brown and Lucille Haffa; four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Eugene and Don Larson; and a grandson, Scott Rechtfertig

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Ottawa. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. rosary followed by a 7 p.m. family visitation.
