WATERLOO - Maxine Halbmaier Judas, 87, of Friendship Village, formerly of Zellwood, Fla., died Friday, May 13, 2005, at her apartment at Friendship Village of cancer.

She was born March 8, 1918, in Oelwein, daughter of Jesse and Mattie Fox Miller. She married Godfrey John "Dick" Halbmaier Nov. 29, 1941, in Waterloo. He died Sept. 5, 1976. She then married Carl E. Judas May 9, 1980, in Waterloo.

Maxine graduated from Oelwein High School in 1935 and also attended one year of business college in Des Moines. She was employed for 17 years in the personnel department at Sears, retiring in 1978. Maxine and Carl moved to Florida in 1983.

Survived by her husband, Carl; five sons, Randy (Carolyn) Halbmaier of Whittier, Calif., Michael (Susan) Halbmaier of Westminister, Colo., Mark (Mary) Halbmaier of Boone, Kevin (Cynthia) Halbmaier of Albia and Richard (Anne) Halbmaier of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Teresa (Craig) Paul of Plymouth, Minn.; three stepsons, Steve (Kathy) Judas of Dike, Roger (Jean) Judas of Waterloo and Greg (Cindy) Judas of Johnston; 27 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Katherine Miller of Independence, Charlotte Miller of Missouri and Betty Miller Brant of Marshalltown; and a sister, Ardys Garrison of Oelwein.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Micaela Halbmaier; six brothers, Laurence Miller, Kenneth Miller in infancy, Russell (Virgina) Miller, Virgil (Ruby) Miller, Donald Miller and Floyd Miller; two sisters, Eldoris (Leroy) Brant and Lenora (Tracy) Small; and a brother-in-law, Kirk Garrison.

Services were 10:30 a.m. today at St. Edward Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum, both in Waterloo. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street was in charge of arrangements.
