Ila J. Elliott, 79, of Tripoli, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at the Tripoli Nursing Home following a stroke.

She was born July 31, 1925, in Tripoli, daughter of August and Hulda Kleiss Hesse. She married Harry Elliott in the 1940s, and they later divorced.

Mrs. Elliott and her former husband owned and operated the Iowa Rolling Snack Bar, Waterloo, for several years. She also had worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co., Waterloo, for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Elliott of Cedar Rapids and Jody (Randolph) Hess of Newhall; a son, Dave (Connie) of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; two brothers, Arlyn (Alice) Hesse of Urbandale and Kelly (Lynn) Hesse of Tucson, Ariz.; and two sisters, Barbara Seelhammer of Tripoli and Mercede House of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Marlys Goodenbour and Lucille Johnson.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, Tripoli, with private family inurnment in the church cemetery. Friends may call for an hour before services Friday at the church. Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Tripoli Nursing Home.
