[Semi Weekly Iowa State Reporter, Friday, November 2, 1900, Waterloo, Iowa]

The news is received today of the death of Mrs. J. T. Graham, who until a few weeks ago was a resident of this city, her home being at 814 South Street

The death occurred last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Walker, about three miles north of Jesup, where she had been staying since breaking up housekeeping in Waterloo. It was her intention to make her home later at Kansas City with another daughter, Ada recently married to M. H Kenaston. Mrs. Graham was in poor health when she left here, but a fatal termination was not anticipated and the news of her death comes as a surprise to her friends.

Mrs. Graham's maiden name was Marcia Hatch, and she was born in Vermont Sept. 12, 1836. She was married to J. T. Graham in 1859. Mr. Graham came to Blackhawk county in 1855. and settled in Barclay township, buying 160 acres in section 11. He brought his bride to this county, and together they resided there for many years, increasing their landed possessions until the home farm consisted of 400 acres in one body at the time of Mr. Graham's death, which occurred October 19, 1885. Three children were born to them - Ella, Ada and Carrie L., the latter deceased.

Mrs. Kenaston, the second daughter was with her mother at the Walker home up to a few days prior to her mother's death, when she was called to Kansas City by a telegram announcing the serious illness of her husband. It has since developed that Mr. Kenaston's disease is smallpox, a fact that will doubtless make it impossible for the lady to leave Kansas City to attend the funeral of her mother.

Mrs. Graham was buried in a cemetery in Barclay Township, located upon land which he had donated for that purpose, and it is supposed that his wife will now be laid beside him. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Walker home where death occurred. Waterloo friends who desire to attend will be met at the depot by suitable conveyances. The deceases was a member of the Presbyterian church of this city.
